Steven Clowes is an artisan joinery atelier. Steven himself is a multidisciplinary carpenter and joiner, working across the interwoven fields of product, interior and architectural design as well as structural interventions. Ever since the age of 17, he has worked with the beautiful raw material that is wood. He commenced his professional carpentry career by working as a cabinet maker. His main strengths lie in the depth of knowledge for natural building materials and traditional techniques, often applied to suit contemporary solutions.
Steven’s passion for progressing within the traditional craftsmanship led him to completing the Prince’s Foundation course for Conservation & Heritage Skills. Ever since completing the course, he has been involved with projects for the Prince’s Foundation, where he has project managed, assessed students and renovated some of their listed sites across the UK such as Dumfries House Estate in Scotland and Highgrove Estate in the Cotswolds.
The studio can offer design, make and delivery of projects on variety of scales from small timber crafted gadgets and musical instruments such as guitars, through boats, furniture pieces, staircases, internal fit-outs and entire timber frame structures and buildings.
We take pride in all bespoke creations from work produced for clients to decorative and unique objects for beloved ones. We are flexible in all aspects of building work and very keen to develop our knowledge and expertise to meet the client’s requirements and standards.
Primarily we are based in London. However, our current projects are located in Barton on Sea. We are in charge of the design, fabrication and install of series of staircases and internal carpentry fit-out elements such as fitted wardrobes, fireplaces, doors and Art Deco features, resembling the original 1920s style.
